Utah has enough news today to have its own Overnight News Digest. Let's see what I can do.
Justin Miller, House Rep, Resigns.
The announcement comes after months of allegations surrounding Miller’s actions while working on Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams 2014 midterm campaign activities.
In a damming audio recording, Miller is heard struggling to explain the disappearance of over $34,000 from McAdams’ campaign funds and would soon be pushed out from that campaign. Not long after, Miller would be dismissed from his position as Salt Lake County Associate Deputy Mayor by McAdams, citing poor performance.
Miller alleged publicly that he was fired because Miller complained too loudly about a deal that McAdams struck with The Exoro Group to rent unused office space for storage of campaign materials. Miller would cry foul because Exoro holds several contracts with Salt Lake County.
The Trib has this:
McAdams also said he expects a court order that Miller repay the campaign funds he took.
Under the terms of Miller's plea, if he pays restitution in full before the hearing, he could be sentenced to a lesser, third-degree felony, which is punishable by up to five years in prison, court papers say.
Additionally, if a judge orders a suspended sentence, Miller could avoid prison and serve only probation. The agreement allows for a further reduction of Miller's sentence — to a class A misdemeanor — on his permanent record if he successfully completes probation.
You-all have already heard all about our Congressional Rep, Jason Chaffetz.
Now this clown has a prize.
San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman is a federal convict, but now he is also Utah's 2015 county commissioner of the year.
The Utah Association of Counties voted to give him the award at its recent fall convention, after Lyman was convicted in May of misdemeanor charges for organizing an illegal protest ride by ATVs into artifact-filled Recapture Canyon near Blanding.
"The commissioners kind of respect when someone takes a stand or takes action," Lyman said Friday. "They appreciated what I did."
And there is a HUGE FOOTBALL GAME!
GO UTES!
And there's a heck of a mayor's race. Go Jackie!
